Supplies you may need and where to find them You might already have most of the items that you will need around the house. Items that you don't have on-hand are easily (and inexpensively) purchased at Wal-Mart or the Dollar store.
Price Tags -- Price tags may be purchased at Wal-Mart, Office Depot, Staples, or other office supply stores. They must measure: 1 3/32 in. x 1 3/4 in. They come in bunches of 100 or 500. If you have trouble finding these, please contact Leigh Levy at (412) 832-0642 or send an e-mail to snugglebugsconsignment@yahoo.com with the subject line "String Tags".
Hangers -- We strongly prefer plastic hangers over metal hangers. We have hangers that you are welcome to borrow for the event. If you have any trouble at all getting hangers, just call us.
Safety Pins -- Please use medium-sized pins (no tiny gold pins, straight pins, or staples) to attach your tags. These can be found in boxes of 200 at Dollar Tree or in smaller quantities at Wal-Mart.
Clear Mailing Tape -- For sealing games and puzzles and to seal the tops of Ziploc bags (available at Dollar stores).
Ziploc Bags -- For grouping smaller items (available at Dollar stores).
Sharpie Marker -- To mark your seller information on Ziploc bags (available at Dollar stores).

General Tagging Information
- Attach tags to clothes with a safety pin
(no tiny gold pins, straight pins or staples) to the upper right side of garment as you're looking at it on the hanger. The hanger should face left and resemble a question mark. Items with tags on the wrong side DON'T sell because buyers can't find the tags easily. **Tags should be pinned to items using the STRING portion of the tag rather than through the small hole at the top of the paper portion. The latter makes it too easy for tags to be separated from the item during the sale. Never attach the tag to the hanger. It must be ON the clothing item.
**Fabric Alert**
Take great care when tagging spandex, nylon, and knit fabrics. For example, girls bathing suits should NEVER be pinned anywhere other than the seam on a shoulder strap. Doing so will leave a permanent hole in the spandex material. Also, nylon jackets and even some cotton knits (T-shirt material) can be damaged when pinned. If you have any doubt that a fabric will not "heal" when the pin is removed, please take special care in pinning the piece at a seam so it will not be damaged. We all want to get what we pay for!
Small Items Baby accessories, rattles, bows, etc. should be grouped together appropriately and placed in Ziploc bags. Please seal the top of the bag with CLEAR mailing tape. Pin the tag to the Ziploc bag. Do NOT place the tag inside the bag. Very important: Please write your Consignor ID on the back of the bag with a Sharpie marker in case the tag becomes separated during the sale. NO clothing items should be placed in bags-shoppers will want to "check them out" for stains, etc. before they buy. Clothing pieces in bags don't sell and will need to be re-packaged before they will be accepted.
Teeny Tiny Clothing Pieces LIKE NEW socks, infant t-shirts, plain onesie undershirts, bibs, etc. should be tagged, but not hung. Multiple pieces can be pinned together when appropriate and sold in groups. Only items that are the SAME SIZE should be grouped. Please do NOT place these items in bags, since shoppers will want to check them over. Bagged items will NOT sell and will need to be re-packaged before we can accept them into inventory. Please keep in mind that these items are PLENTIFUL and bring only those items that are in PERFECT condition. We will provide bins by size for these items. NO clothing items should be placed in bags–they will not sell. All sleepers, pajamas, and onesies that can be worn by themselves (not undershirts) should be presented on hangers.
Children's Shoes Shoes can be a little tricky to tag. First, use string or yarn to tie the shoes together securely, then pin the price tag to a shoelace or through the shoe eyelet. We strongly advise that you put your Consignor ID and price on masking tape on the bottom of each shoe. In your description, be sure to include the size and gender. Only shoe sizes 0 to 13 and 1 to 5 will be accepted and must be in LIKE NEW condition, with little or NO signs of wear. **Please leave all shoeboxes at home. Shoes will not be displayed in their boxes, so the boxes may get lost.**
Blankets/Bedding All blankets and bedding should be hung for display. Hang and pin blankets over hangers so that shoppers can see them. Small receiving blankets can be grouped and should be pinned securely together. For bedding sets, simply hang the items on one or more hangers and pin the items together to keep them from getting separated. **Tip -- using a few hangers together for heavier blankets and sets will help support the weight better and reduce sagging.
Toys, Furniture, and Equipment Large toys and furniture, from brand names like Little Tikes and Fisher Price, sell very well! Use CLEAR mailing tape to attach the tag to the item so it will be visible to shoppers. If there are multiple pieces (table and two chairs, etc.), include that in the description. When tagging large toys it is best to also attach a piece of masking tape to EACH piece with your Consignor ID and the price. This will help to keep sets together and enable us to sell your item even if the tag comes off!
Toys, Games, Videos/Tapes, Books, and Stuffed Animals
Toys, games, and puzzles must be in great shape, with all pieces, and in working order. Tape boxes shut to keep everything together. Tape the string part of the tag to the box, leaving the paper portion free, so the price label can be properly affixed at Drop-Off. VHS tapes should be tagged the same way. Please do not put the label directly on the tape or the box. For some great tips on cleaning toys and removing stubborn scuff-marks from plastic, please click here.
For larger toys that have small pieces, place small pieces in a Ziploc bag and seal the top with clear mailing tape. Attach the bag SECURELY to the toy. It is a good idea to put a brief description in bag and write your Consignor ID on the back of the bag with a Sharpie marker, just in case it becomes separated. If deemed necessary, some small or critical parts/accessories will be inventoried behind the counter. If your toy cannot operate without a certain piece or part (a key, battery pack, etc.), please bring it to our attention at drop-off and we will help you with it.
Group similar small items together (e.g., baby toys, small toys, etc.) and place them in clear Ziploc bags with the tag pinned to the outside. Seal the top of the bag with CLEAR mailing tape. Write your Consignor ID on the back of the bag with a Sharpie marker.
Books can be sold in groups, but they will sell best when shoppers can look through them. If possible, use large rubber bands (going in both directions across the books) to band them together. Tape the string portion of the tag to one of the books, leaving the paper portion free, so the price label can be affixed properly at Drop-Off.
Stuffed Animals
We will accept ONLY Beanie Baby, Disney or other name brand stuffed animals that are NEW WITH THE TAG ATTACHED. We cannot accept used stuffed animals. Dancing Tigger, Tickle Me Elmo, and other battery-operated toys are accepted, but must have working batteries. Please pin the tag securely to the item. For toys like Tickle Me Elmo, please include operating instructions if possible. Shoppers unfamiliar with the toy may not know that it has to be in a certain position in order to talk and will assume that it does not work.
If you are unsure about any item or have additional questions, please feel free to contact Leigh at (412) 832-0642 or send an e-mail to snugglebugsconsignment@yahoo.com.

Pricing Guidelines
The most important thing to keep in mind when pricing your items is that the ONLY way for you to make money is to get your items from the rack to the register. We have provided some general pricing guidelines to help you. Please feel free to call or email us with questions. Please click here for a Pricing Cheat Sheet that will have you pricing like a seasoned pro!.
$2 rule. ALL items need to be priced at a minimum of $2. Please price in half dollar increments ($2, $2.50, etc.). It is perfectly fine to group similar themed items together so that they will equal a value of at least $2.00. For example, multiple onesies, T shirts, small toys, videos, etc. can be grouped together to reach a value of at least $2. Grouped clothing items MUST BE the SAME SIZE. Groupings of unrelated items will NOT sell and they will not be accepted for the sale.
Price your items reasonably. Shoppers attending this event will not be in the mindset of paying near-retail prices. Keep in mind what the item retails for, what someone would pay for it secondhand, and the condition of the item. It is best to imagine what you would pay for the item if you were shopping.
Item Quality. Please keep in mind that, regardless of brand name, items that are worn, faded, or out of date do NOT sell and will be refused or pulled from the sales floor before the sale begins.
Many items sell on the half -price day. If you do NOT wish to have an item sell for half-price, you will be able to indicate that when you enter your items. Try to use this feature sparingly to avoid missing out on sales.
As a general rule, try to price your items 1/4 to 1/3 of the original sale price. Baby items (up to 24 months) should be priced a bit more aggressively, since there is such an abundance of these items.
Clothing: Price items at 20 to 35% of their original cost. (Higher for designer/boutique brands). Price Sizes 2T and under a little less than larger sizes.
Coats: Price items at 25 to 35% of their original cost.
Baby Equipment: If the item is like new and a current design, then price it at 25 to 45% of the original cost. If it is not a current design, then price it at 20 to 30% of the original cost. (For Example: Exer-saucers of older, more basic design are worth less than a comparable newer model with all of the bells and whistles.)
Furniture: Price items at 25 to 40% of the original price. Cribs go from $40 to over $100. Toddler beds are usually priced around 25% of their original cost.
Toys: Price items at 20 to 35% of the original cost--depending on the popularity of the toy. Brand name toys and larger items generally sell for more (Little Tikes, Brio, etc.)
Videos: Price videos at approximately 25% of their original price. You can price a bit higher ($4 and up) for full-length, popular movies by Disney, Dreamworks, Pixar, etc. Price shorter, non-name brand movies lower and consider grouping these types of videos together. No PG-13 or R rated titles will be accepted for this sale.
Books: Price them at 20-25% of their original cost. Books need to be in like new condition with no pages missing, ripped bindings, or additional 'artwork' that was added by someone along the way, etc. It is fine to group similar or related books together. (Ex. 2 to 3 Arthur paper back books Approx. $3.) Please keep in mind that all groupings should appeal to the same age reader. For example, you would not pair a Harry Potter book with and ABC's book.
Large Plastic Toys: (Little Tikes, etc) – Price items at 25-50% of their original cost. If the item is older in style and color scheme, price it on the lower end of the range. If the item is VERY current and in NEW condition (no fading, etc.) price it higher. (for example: The older light pink items are not as desirable as the newer style items). ** Big-ticket items sometimes sell better if you print out a description, or information that shows the item's retail value. Items also sell better when they include user manuals, folding instructions (for strollers and playpens), etc.
