Getting your items ready...

Consignor Information/General Guidelines:

  • We accept top-quality children's clothing sizes Newborn to Youth Size 12, toys, books, videos, nursery furniture, and all of the baby gear that you can imagine. Please click here to see a list of the items being accepted for this event.

  • All items must be in excellent condition and intended for Fall and Winter use. Spring and Summer items will not sell and will be refused. We will look forward to helping you sell them at our Spring 2009!

  • $2 rule. ALL items need to be priced at a minimum of $2. Please price in half dollar increments ($2, $2.50, etc.). It is perfectly fine to group similar themed items together so that they will equal a value of at least $2.00. For example, multiple onesies, T-shirts, small toys, videos, etc. can be grouped together. Please do NOT group unrelated items together. They will not sell and will be refused. Click here for a pricing cheat sheet that will help you handle your pricing like a seasoned pro.

  • All items must contain all pieces and be working with batteries, if necessary. Toys, infant swings, etc. that require batteries will not sell unless shoppers can see them working.

Clothing Guidelines:

  • All clothing must be current styles (preferably within the last 5 years --- outdated styles do not sell), clean and free of stains, tears, rips, excessive wear/pilling, odors and pet hair. Please review your clothing items in a well-lit room, preferably in natural sunlight through a window. Double check shirt fronts and cuffs, as well as pant knees, thighs, and cuffs. That is where most stains and signs of wear will be apparent. We will be double-checking at the event to be sure that all items are in EXCELLENT condition. We reserve the right to refuse any items that do not meet the quality guidelines. To ensure that our sales floor offers only items that are in great shape, we will also perform a Quality Check prior to the start of the sale. Any items that are not in excellent condition will be pulled from the sales floor before the sale begins.

  • Clothing Sizes -- Please use only "number" sizes; translate all Small, Medium, Large tags to their "number" value. Many of our shoppers are shopping for grandchildren, nieces, and nephews, etc. and may not be familiar with what a GAP size XXS means. To help you, we have created a reference sheet that includes sizing for many of the popular stores. Doing this will help your clothing sell better. Also, if a size tag states a size range, the item should be placed on the rack for the LARGER size. For example, if the size tag reads 2 to 3 years, then it would be placed with the size "3" items for the event. Clothing sets and groupings should be THE SAME SIZE TOP AND BOTTOM. Please bring to our attention any items that do not fit this criteria.

Super-Duper Important!!!** Sorting your clothing by size and gender will make your data entry a breeze and will make your drop-off much quicker.**Anyone who has participated in the past will tell you that this is CRUCIAL.

  • Clothing sells best when it is presented nicely. Please take time to wash and iron your clothes if necessary. Please be sure to button all buttons, snap all snaps, and zip all zippers. Please place the garment on the hanger like you would find it in a retail store -- please do NOT jam a hanger into the waistline of a pair of pants. It will ruin the pants and they look awful. Using pant hangers or safety pinning the waist to the hanger is a much better way to go. Following these suggestions will make your clothes look nice and will help them sell!

  • Outfits and sets often sell better. If you have items that were worn together by your child, or matching accessories for an outfit, consider selling them as a set. **Important note** Children's top and bottom sets work well with the smaller sizes (under 2T), but older kids often take different sizes on the top and bottom. Selling in sets for larger sizes can be tricky and pieces may do better separately. It is totally fine (and encouraged) to put a note on the items referencing that a matching piece may be found in the same size. The same can be done for outfits that have matching shoes. If you would like to bundle items, feel free to combine multiple tops or bottoms of the same size together.

  • We strongly prefer plastic hangers. Wire hangers often cause clothing to slip or hang strangely. We have a limited stock of hangers that you may borrow for prepping your items. Consignors who supply all of their own hangers are welcome to retrieve hangers at pick-up in a quantity equal to the number of items they sold. We will be unable to return the exact hangers that you supplied, but we will provide a reasonable substitute.

  • Infant clothes are abundant. Consignors should bring only those items that are in LIKE NEW condition and price them competitively. Shoppers will have a LOT to choose from.

Hanging Tips:

All pants must be on pant hangers or pinned at the side of the waist to a hanger -- not folded over, as they tend to end up on the floor. All skirts should be hung this way as well. **NOTE: Please do NOT jam a hanger into the waistline of a pair of pants. It looks awful and often ruins the piece, making it unable to be sold.

The trick with sets is to have both pieces viewable without unpinning them. The quickest and easiest way to do this is to hang them on separate hangers and then rubber band the hangers together. This makes it clear to shoppers that these items are sold together. Only use rubber bands to connect the hangers. Ribbon, string, zip ties, and other methods have proven ineffective for keeping items together.

Any pieces with thin straps (overalls, tank tops, dresses, etc.) should be pinned to the hanger at each shoulder so they do not fall off of the hanger. Especially for bigger kids' overalls, we recommend that you pin the cuffs to the top of the hanger as well to keep them from dragging on the floor.

**Important note** -- Please be extremely careful when pinning your items and pay close attention to the placement of the pins. MANY fabrics can be damaged by pinning, so we suggest pinning by a seam or in a place where it won't be seen (under a collar, etc.).

Shoe Guidelines:

  • Please bring only your like-new shoes! Shoes must show little or NO wear. We will be working with sizes 0 - 13 and 1 -5 only. Please use string to securely tie the shoes together and put the price tag through the lace or elsewhere on the shoe itself. Do not attach the tag to the string that is holding the shoes together -- these inevitably get separated during the sale, making it more difficult to sell them. **Please leave all shoeboxes at home. Shoes will be displayed without the boxes. We will send all boxes home with you.

Baby Equipment & Furniture Guidelines:

  • We can't accept bathtubs, potty seats, or diaper pails of any kind. Click here for a list of Acceptable Items.

  • All baby equipment and furniture must be clean, must include ALL working parts and pieces, and must not be subject to recall.

  • Please wash covers and straps of strollers, high chairs, rockers, exer-saucers, swings, etc.

  • Place small parts and pieces in Zip-loc bags and tape them securely to the item with CLEAR packing tape. Write your Consignor ID on the bag(s) with a Sharpie marker in case the bag becomes separated during the sale. Instructions/user manuals are always helpful to include. Many can be found online and printed.

  • Baby and children's furniture must be complete and assembled. You will be responsible for assembly. All pieces MUST meet current safety standards and must NOT be subject to recall. **Please jot down or print out assembly/dis-assembly instructions if possible. This will make buyers more comfortable that they will be able to re-construct the crib, etc. when they get it home -- and your items will sell better and faster!

  • Be sure to place all price tags on the item itself, rather than the carrying case, box, etc. All Pack-n-Plays, Bassinets, etc. will be fully displayed on the sales floor and shoppers will be looking for tags on the items themselves. Carrying cases will probably be tucked in a pocket and out of sight.

Guidelines for Toys/Games, Videos, Books, Stuffed Animals:

  • All items must be in top shape, with all pieces and in working order.

  • Toys requiring batteries must have working batteries. You can pick up inexpensive batteries at the Dollar store.

  • Puzzles and games must have all pieces -- PLEASE COUNT THEM. Please tape boxes shut or wrap boxes in clear Saran wrap in order to secure their contents. Toys that are not packaged properly will be turned away.

  • Books must be in excellent condition with no missing pages, additional 'artwork', or ripped bindings.

  • VHS/DVD movies and music CDs must be in good working order. No one wants a tape or disk that skips or won't play properly. PG-13 and R-rated videos will not be accepted for this event.

  • Stuffed Animals -- We will ONLY accept Beanie Baby, Disney or other name brand stuffed animals that are NEW WITH THE TAG ATTACHED. No used stuffed animals will be accepted. ** Do not put Beanie Babies, etc. in bags. They will not sell. Instead, please pin them securely together if presenting them as a group.

  • Battery operated stuffed toys (Tickle Me Elmo, Dancing Tigger, etc.) will work for the sale and are very popular. These items must have working batteries. **It may also be helpful to include instructions with some of the toys -- for example, one version of the talking Elmo only talks when his body is put in a particular position. Grandparents, new parents, and parents unfamiliar with that particular toy may just assume it doesn't work if they can't get it to talk.

Cleaning Tips

These have worked for us, but are only suggestions and may not be suitable for all fabrics or materials. Please read cleaning product package directions carefully and proceed at your own risk.

Clothing and Shoes:

  • Clorox 2 Bleach for Colors - works great for removing spots on pieces that would be destroyed by regular bleach.

  • Zout - may even remove set-in stains.

  • Oxy Clean - perfect for grass stains!

  • Clorox Bleach Pen -- this is a great spot remover on white fabrics and, because it gives you a lot of control over the bleaching agent, can be used (with great care) on print fabrics where the stain is only on the white part.

  • Spot Shot - this is actually carpet cleaner, but it works wonderfully to remove ground-in dirt on fabrics (think strollers, highchairs, etc.) Please keep in mind that the item will need plenty of time to 'air out' after it has been cleaned.

  • Goop -- good for getting out grease. Soak the stain as instructed, then put in the regular wash cycle.

Toys:

  • Mr. Clean Magic Eraser - works wonders removing unsightly scuff-marks from plastic toys. With a little elbow grease, Little Tykes toys, etc. look like they just came out of the box! This product can be found in the cleaning aisle of your supermarket.
